How to Prepare Your Home for Interior Painting

A simple homeowner checklist for the week before your painters arrive — what to move, what to cover, and what we handle.

A little preparation makes an interior paint job faster, cleaner, and better. Here's exactly what to do before the crew arrives — and what we take care of for you.

One week before

  • Choose and confirm final colors and sheens for every room.
  • Order samples and view them on the actual wall in both daylight and lamp light.
  • Note any repairs you want addressed: nail holes, cracks, water stains, damaged trim.

The day before

  • Remove wall art, mirrors, curtains, and switch plate covers if you prefer to handle fragile items yourself.
  • Move small furniture and breakables out of the rooms being painted.
  • Clear closet floors if closets are included.
  • Secure pets in a quiet area away from the work zone.

What our crew handles

  1. 1Moving and centering large furniture, then covering it fully.
  2. 2Floor protection with drop cloths and runners on every path.
  3. 3Filling nail holes, sanding, caulking gaps, and priming stains.
  4. 4Masking trim, floors, fixtures, and cabinetry.
  5. 5Full cleanup and furniture replacement at the end of each day.

Ventilation and timing

Modern low-VOC and zero-VOC paints have very little odor, so most families stay in the home during interior work. We stage the job room by room so you always have living space, and we keep windows and fans running while coatings cure.

After the job

Walk the space with your project lead during daylight. We check cut lines, coverage, and sheen consistency together, and anything you flag gets corrected before we consider the job finished — that's what the written two-year warranty is for.
